Barcelona intend to 'borrow' Lionel Messi. |
Messi left Barcelona in 2021 after his contract expired. Although they still want to keep the Argentine superstar, Los Blaugrana do not have the financial resources to do so. However, the team still has a chance to have Messi again.
According to Diario Sport, Barcelona are in contact with Inter Miami about the possibility of borrowing Messi. If Inter Miami fails to reach the MLS playoffs, El Pulga will not play for the club until March 2024.
Many players who have played in the US league have chosen to return to Europe on loan to maintain their form. American teams also want this to maintain the form of their players.
In the past, David Beckham, Thierry Henry and Robbie Keane chose this option when leaving American clubs to play for European clubs on short-term loans.
Inter Miami co-owner Jorge Mas has promised to give Messi the chance to bid farewell to Barcelona in a more fitting manner. Therefore, the possibility of Inter Miami accepting El Pulga's return to Barcelona is relatively high.
Messi has been doing very well since his move to Inter Miami. He was instrumental in helping Inter Miami win the League Cup. He has scored 11 goals in 12 appearances for the American club.
However, Messi has been unable to play for Inter Miami recently due to injury. He has been absent from the last four matches. In all four of these matches, the Florida club has failed to win.
That puts Inter Miami in serious danger of missing out on the MLS playoffs. They are six points behind the top nine (playoff places) and have played one game less. However, there are only three rounds of MLS left.
