Bayern Munich proved their superiority over Auckland City. With 34 Bundesliga titles and a squad worth 903 million euros, the "Gray Tigers" had no trouble crushing their opponents.
FIFA recorded the recent confrontation as the biggest victory in the history of tournaments organized by this Federation. Previously, the record belonged to Al Hilal with a 1-6 loss to Al Jazeera at the 2002 Club World Cup.
In its old format, the FIFA World Cup has seen many heavy defeats throughout its history since 1930, but never by a margin of 10 goals. Some of the biggest defeats in World Cup history include Hungary's 10-1 win over El Salvador in 1982, as well as Yugoslavia's 9-0 wins over Zaire (1974) and Hungary's 9-0 wins over South Korea (1954).
Michael Olise, who scored twice in Bayern's thrashing of Auckland City, shook his head and laughed after scoring consecutive goals. The Frenchman's reaction showed the huge gap between the two teams in terms of technique, fitness and reputation.

Auckland City are largely a semi-professional side. |
Auckland City is an amateur team, with most players taking up football as a sideline. Members of the club are said to have taken annual leave and paid their own way to the United States to participate in the Club World Cup. The memorable tour to the United States could cost some Auckland City players their entire annual salary.
The win over Auckland City puts Bayern in the top spot of Group C of the Club World Cup. The other two opponents in the group are Benfica and Boca Juniors.
