The reigning Bundesliga champions faced Auckland City, a semi-professional team from New Zealand, in their opening match. The gap between the two sides was clear from the opening minutes as Bayern Munich dominated the game, leaving their opponents with no chance to play.

The German representative scored 6 goals in the first half, and 4 goals in the second half. During the 90 minutes, the "Gray Tigers" shot 31 times, controlling the ball 72%, while the New Zealand representative only had one chance.

Despite conceding 10 goals, Auckland City goalkeeper Conor Tracey made seven saves for his team. Tracey, who works as a forklift driver for a veterinary supply warehouse during the day, like most of the team, took unpaid leave to play with Auckland City.

Before the match, there were many comparisons pointing out the huge difference between this pair. Bayern's squad value is up to more than 900 million euros, compared to Auckland's just over 4.5 million euros. In terms of Opta power index, Auckland is only ranked 763rd in the world , while Bayern Munich is ranked 6th and 757 places higher than its opponent.

The 10-0 win over Auckland City was the biggest win in the history of a FIFA men's senior tournament. The previous record at the FIFA Club World Cup (which began in 2000) was Al Hilal's 1-6 loss to Al Jazeera in 2002.

This is also the biggest score difference since the tournament's inception in 1930. The three biggest wins in FIFA World Cup history are Hungary 10-1 El Salvador (1982), Yugoslavia (former) 9-0 Zaire (1974) and Hungary 9-0 South Korea (1954).

Bayern Munich’s victory helped them secure the top spot in Group C, ahead of Auckland City, Boca Juniors of Argentina and SL Benfica of Portugal. The “Gray Tigers” next match will take place at 8am on June 21 in Miami (USA) against Boca Juniors.
