Patient NKH (female, born in 2019, residing in Dong Nai province) was admitted to the hospital in a state of shock, with severe burns to the head, chest, thighs, buttocks, and both arms.

After receiving treatment for shock, intravenous fluids, and vasopressors in the Emergency Department, the child continued to be closely monitored by doctors and nurses.

According to the family, at the time of the incident, the child was playing with friends behind the house. Because they did not witness the child playing with alcohol, the child was only discovered by relatives and the fire was extinguished on the spot when it caught on the child's body.

Alcohol is a highly flammable substance. The fire and explosion hazards caused by alcohol are very serious. Burns from alcohol are one of the common household accidents among young children, occurring when they use chemicals, explore , investigate, and experiment. Most incidents happen when there is no adult supervision.

Given the consequences of burns, Dr. Ngo Hong Phuc, Deputy Head of the Burn and Reconstructive Surgery Department at Children's Hospital 2, has some important information for parents. When discovering a child has been burned, parents should:

- Remain calm and remove the child from the area of the burn;

- Remove clothing or objects causing the burn if possible, but do not try to pull them off if they are stuck to the skin;

- Cool the burn by placing it under running water at moderate pressure for about 15 minutes. Do not apply ice or ice water directly to the burned area;

- Use gauze, a clean towel, or cloth to cover the wound to prevent infection and reduce pain;

- Take the child to the nearest medical facility for further first aid and treatment. In the meantime, keep the child warm by covering them with blankets or other protective clothing.

Note that when providing first aid for burns, you should avoid using folk remedies, snake oil, fish sauce, or toothpaste, as these can cause infection and prolong the healing process.

Parents need to be vigilant and cautious about chemicals that can cause fires, explosions, or burns. They should be kept out of reach of children to ensure their safety and prevent unfortunate burn accidents.
