According to journalist Fabrizio Romano, Cannavaro has reached a verbal agreement with the Uzbekistan Football Federation and the deal is expected to be officially announced within the next 48 hours.

Cannavaro has been without a new club since leaving Dinamo Zagreb in April. However, the invitation from Uzbekistan opens up the opportunity for the 2006 World Cup champion to return to coaching at the international level.

Cannavaro is no stranger to Asian football. He spent 7 years working in this continent, starting at Guangzhou Evergrande (China), where he had two periods of leadership and achieved titles. In addition, the Italian coach also led Al Nassr (Saudi Arabia) and had a short time as head coach of the Chinese national team.

After returning to Europe in 2022, Cannavaro led Benevento, Udinese and Dinamo Zagreb in turn. He took over the Croatian team in December 2024 but only lasted 5 months, being fired after 14 matches in charge.

Being selected as head coach of Uzbekistan is a remarkable turning point in Cannavaro's coaching career. The Central Asian team is currently ranked 54th in the world and officially qualified for the 2026 World Cup in June. This is the first time Uzbekistan has participated in the biggest football tournament on the planet.

Inter's 4 goals against Barca In the early morning of May 7, Barcelona lost to Inter Milan 3-4 in extra time of the second leg of the Champions League semi-final.
