Cancer patient has liver surgery with modern robot

Báo Dân tríBáo Dân trí23/02/2024

Through examination and performing tests and imaging, doctors at K Hospital discovered that the patient had a liver tumor measuring 4x5cm. The consultation results showed that the patient met the conditions to undergo robotic laparoscopic surgery.

The patient underwent segment II hepatectomy and was stable after surgery.

Associate Professor, Dr. Pham Van Binh, Deputy Director of K Hospital, said that this is one of four patients who were successfully operated on by a robot by a team of doctors from K Hospital and a team of experts from Nagoya University Hospital, Japan. This is an advanced, minimally invasive surgical method at the highest level, helping patients minimize damage and recover quickly after surgery.

Robotic surgery in liver cancer helps with meticulous dissection, good hemostasis, and safe control of the resection surface in terms of oncology as well as hemostasis.

According to Associate Professor Binh, minimally invasive surgery includes conventional laparoscopic surgery and robotic laparoscopic surgery. To date, robotic laparoscopic surgery applied to cancer is still one of the most advanced techniques applied in surgical cancer treatment.

Robotic surgery for digestive cancer has many advantages over conventional open or endoscopic surgery. Specifically, clear images and highly flexible robotic arms help perform meticulous dissections, helping surgeons operate accurately.

This method also has many outstanding advantages such as ensuring aesthetics, minimal trauma, no bleeding, maximum pain relief, reducing hospital stay while still ensuring cancer treatment results.

"Robotic endoscopic surgery combined with other treatment methods helps prolong the life of cancer patients as much as possible. This is the goal that must be strived for in the field of cancer treatment," Associate Professor Binh emphasized.

On February 23, K Hospital and Nagoya University Hospital, Japan, signed a memorandum of understanding to mark a new development in the bilateral cooperation relationship.

Prof. Dr. Le Van Quang, Director of K Hospital, said that the two sides will have visits and exchanges of lecturers, scholars, managers and students; cooperate in cancer research including basic cancer, epidemiology, prevention, diagnosis, screening, treatment, cancer control and survival...

At the same time, strengthen professional capacity building activities, focusing on training in robotics, endoscopic surgery, microsurgery, exchange, consultation and patient referral between the two hospitals.

According to Associate Professor Quang, the application of new modern techniques in cancer treatment, especially in surgical treatment, has brought significant progress to patients in the recovery process, improving their quality of life.

This signing is an opportunity for experts to share and exchange experiences, update the latest advances in the treatment of gastrointestinal cancer, helping patients feel secure and confident in receiving treatment with high-quality medical services right in Vietnam.
