Can Tho Central General Hospital has just celebrated its 20th anniversary, marking an impressive development milestone for the Ministry of Health's final-line hospital in the Mekong Delta.
20 years ago, on May 12, 2005, Can Tho Central General Hospital was established on the basis of changing its name from Can Tho General Hospital. In the context of the increasing demand for medical examination and treatment of the people, in the initial stage, this hospital encountered many difficulties due to lack of equipment, limited human resources, and inadequate infrastructure.

In particular, in 2024, the hospital successfully performed the first kidney transplant in the Mekong Delta, becoming the 26th organ transplant center in the country. To date, after 1 year of implementation, the hospital has performed 10 kidney transplants. This is also the year that the hospital achieved a quality score of level 4 for the first time according to the assessment of the Ministry of Health, creating a solid foundation for the goal of becoming a special-class hospital by 2025.
