On October 14, Dr. Nguyen Ngoc Thinh, Deputy Director in charge of the Central Highlands General Hospital (Buon Ma Thuot Ward, Dak Lak Province) said that the unit had received information about a patient's family posting a video on social media, questioning the qualifications and negligence of the doctor in the process of treating a patient who had a traffic accident.
Doctor Nguyen Ngoc Thinh said that after receiving the information, the hospital reviewed the patient's records.
The patient's CT scan results had complete information such as fracture of the anterior wall of the right maxillary sinus, maxillary sinus effusion..., however, the patient's discharge paper was incorrect due to missing the information line about "maxillary sinus effusion".
After discovering the incident, the hospital apologized to the patient's family and offered to reprint the full discharge form, but the family did not agree.
The patient was admitted to the hospital with a high alcohol level and drowsiness. The hospital performed two CT scans. The results showed that the patient had a fractured anterior wall of the maxillary sinus with fluid accumulation and soft tissue swelling in the cheekbones and forehead. The maxillary sinus fluid accumulation only requires internal medicine treatment and will go away after a while, Dr. Thinh informed.
Doctor Nguyen Ngoc Thinh affirmed that there was no negligence on the part of the doctors in caring for the traffic accident victim. The diagnosis results between the two hospitals were the same.
The Central Highlands General Hospital has requested relevant departments and offices to report and explain, and at the same time criticize and review doctors and nurses who made mistakes in the printing process.
Previously, on the afternoon of October 13, a social media account posted a video reflecting doubts about the diagnosis and treatment of the Central Highlands General Hospital for his younger brother, Mr. VQĐ (born in 2000, in Cu Jut commune, Lam Dong province).
Specifically, at 5:48 a.m. on October 7, Mr. D. had a traffic accident and was taken to the Central Highlands General Hospital for emergency treatment with multiple injuries to the head, jawbone, and right toe.
At the hospital, doctors performed a CT scan on the patient. At 12:10 pm on October 10, the patient was discharged with a diagnosis of head trauma, loss of the distal phalanx of the second toe on the right foot, and crushed toes.
However, his family confirmed that after returning home, Mr. D. was still drowsy, had a headache, and had temporary memory loss. The hospital did not provide a prescription upon discharge.
Because of worry, on October 13, the family took Mr. D. to a private hospital in Buon Ma Thuot city ( Dak Lak ) for a re-examination. The CT scan results showed that Mr. D. had a fracture of the anterior wall of his right maxillary sinus, a sinus hematoma, small loose bone fragments next to his nasal bone, and swelling in his cheek and right eye.
Afterwards, the patient's family returned to the Central Highlands General Hospital to request clarification as to why the discharge form lacked information about the injury; at the same time, they asked the hospital leadership to consider the possibility that the doctor was negligent, causing their brother to become confused and temporarily lose his memory./.
