Previously, on August 10, Mr. S. was fishing with other fishermen in the sea about 100 nautical miles from Con Dao when someone on the fishing boat slashed off his left hand.
Afterwards, Mr. S. was taken to the Con Dao District Military-Civilian Medical Center for emergency treatment at 1:00 p.m. on August 11. Because Mr. S. had been injured for a long time, transporting him to the mainland would be difficult and time-consuming, causing his hand to become necrotic, so the center's doctors decided to perform surgery to reattach the patient's severed hand.
After nearly 7 hours of surgery, the doctors successfully reattached the patient’s severed hand. The hand was warm and pink after being reattached, and the fingers were able to move. The center then transferred the patient to Ba Ria Hospital for further treatment.
Doctor Tho said this was the first time the center had successfully reattached a severed hand to a patient. "Previously, the center only reconnected severed blood vessels. Due to a lack of medical equipment and supplies, severed limbs could not be reattached. Recently, the center was equipped with a microsurgery kit, so doctors were able to successfully reattach a severed hand to a patient," said Doctor Tho.

Previously, on August 14, Con Dao District Military-Civilian Medical Center also received patient LVĐ (35 years old) who was brought to the emergency center by relatives with a punctured abdominal wound.
Through examination, the center's doctors discovered that Mr. D. had a punctured liver wound, so they drained more than 1,800 ml of fresh blood and blood clots from the abdomen and sutured the punctured wounds in the patient's liver and stomach.
After the surgery, Mr. D.'s health has stabilized, he is now able to walk and is being treated at the Military-Civilian Medical Center of Con Dao District. On September 18, during a working trip to Con Dao District, Deputy Minister of Health Nguyen Thi Lien Huong visited the Military-Civilian Medical Center of Con Dao District to visit and give gifts to Mr. D., the patient who had just been saved by surgery.
