Right after the final episode of Sing! Asia 2025 was broadcast on the Iqiyi platform (in Vietnam, it was broadcast simultaneously on FPT Play), there were some opinions that the Chopstick performance in round 2 was "out of breath" compared to Phuong My Chi's previous performances.

In round 1, the Vietnamese-Chinese version of Lac Troi performed by Phuong My Chi and Hoang Linh achieved the highest score with 202.8 points. In round 2, Phuong My Chi performed Chopstick,   Her new composition and DTAP exclusively for Sing! Asia .

The judge, Chinese diva Zhang Liangying, commented that this was a very difficult song to sing. Phuong My Chi, who wrote the music, really left no room for her to retreat. She gave the performance 9.4 points.

Talking about the two performances of the Vietnamese contestants, judge Au Dinh Ngoc (Hong Kong) commented that Phuong My Chi had "nothing to criticize", "she has all the conditions to become a big star".

Judge Kenn C (Singapore) even gave Phuong My Chi a score of 10 because her voice is "flawless".

However, the performance only achieved 204 points, losing to Chinese contestant Chu Phi Ca (208.6 points). In the end, Phuong My Chi achieved 406.8 points, ranking third. Chu Phi Ca came in second and the championship was awarded to Miyuna.

Compared to previous performances, Chopstick is a completely different song. It has a clear cultural exchange color, but is considered not suitable for a music competition. Did Phuong My Chi and her team miscalculate in choosing the song for the final round?

Speaking to Tuoi Tre Online , Chi said that this depends on each person's feelings when watching the program. "For Chi, Chopsticks is not necessarily an explosive performance in terms of technique or fast tempo, but it is explosive in terms of message and emotion," Phuong My Chi shared.

She also said that this is a song that Chi and DTAP composed specifically for the final round, carrying a message about the connection between Asian friends. Standing on stage with 30 children dressed in costumes representing Asian countries, in an open musical space, was a very special moment for Chi.

"In addition to the rich visual arrangement, this song also helps Chi express the depth of emotions and inner strength of her voice. For Chi, this is the way we chose to end the journey in a meaningful, humane way and in the spirit of Sing! Asia ," Chi added.

Speaking to Tuoi Tre Online about stopping in the top 3, Phuong My Chi said "this is still an extremely proud journey because I have shown my full potential and have been somewhat successful in bringing Vietnamese cultural values to international friends".

Chi said that for her, Sing! Asia is not just a competition but a very special journey, where she gets to live with the music, culture and emotions of everyone.

The happiest thing is probably the feeling of connecting with new friends, talented artists in the region, and most of all, international audiences who have listened and felt the story of Vietnam through the music that Chi, the DTAP brothers and the crew have brought.

Phuong My Chi added that when performing Chopsticks , she was really emotional. This is not just a performance but also the crystallization of emotions and efforts from the whole team. Chi and the crew call this song the "soul song" of the Sing! Asia journey for that reason.
