After Nguyen Thi Oanh won the gold medal in the 5,000m race on the first day, the Organizing Committee announced a change in the competition schedule once again. Specifically, after participating in the 1,500m race at 5:30 p.m. on May 9, Nguyen Thi Oanh participated in the 3,000m obstacle course at 5:50 p.m., only 20 minutes away.

However, Nguyen Thi Oanh has overcome all obstacles to complete her hat-trick of gold medals so far at the 32nd SEA Games when she won gold medals in the 5,000m, 1,500m and 3,000m steeplechase events.

Immediately after winning the 1,500m gold medal, Nguyen Thi Oanh continued to enter the 3,000m obstacle course. She chose the last stretch of the 8th out of 9 laps to start accelerating. The Vietnamese athlete raced to the finish line, leaving her Philippine opponent far behind to win her second gold medal in less than 30 minutes. Nguyen Thi Oanh's time was 10 minutes 34 seconds 39. This was her third gold medal at the 32nd SEA Games.
