Bach Mai Hospital has just admitted and treated a 29-year-old female patient (in Hanoi ) who was hospitalized with severe contact dermatitis and secondary infection due to complications after removing a mole at an unqualified traditional medicine facility. This is a warning bell about the unpredictable risks when performing cosmetic procedures on the skin at places that lack credibility.
Dr. Tran Thi Quyen, Department of Dermatology and Burns, Bach Mai Hospital said: The patient was admitted with many skin lesions at the mole removal site, manifested by inflammation, redness, swelling, severe pain, accompanied by pus discharge. It is worth mentioning that the person performing the mole removal technique for the patient was an acquaintance, with unknown professional qualifications.
The patient said he did not know what technique he was being bleached with or what medicine was being applied, and completely trusted an acquaintance and skipped the important initial examination step.
Dr. Tran Thi Quyen diagnosed this as a case of contact dermatitis with secondary infection after laser treatment and application of unknown medication. Local complications that patients may encounter include irritation, post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation and bad scars. If the technique is not performed correctly, the risk of mole recurrence is very high. In particular, with interventions that do not ensure sterility and expertise, it is entirely possible to cause serious complications like this case."
Although mole removal is not a very complicated method, it has many potential risks if not done properly.
Doctors confirm that not all moles can be treated with laser. Moles are the result of increased melanin pigmentation on the skin. Most are benign, but some cases are early warning signs of skin cancer, especially moles in locations frequently exposed to UV rays.
Experts recommend that if you see a mole with unusual signs such as: rapid increase in size, discharge, uneven color, rough surface, etc., you should see a doctor immediately. Removing a malignant mole without examination or biopsy will unintentionally mask the symptoms, causing cancer to progress silently, causing unpredictable consequences.
According to Dr. Quyen, for benign moles, if there is a need for aesthetics, people can completely remove them. Modern methods such as laser and minor surgery are highly appreciated for their safety and quick healing time (only 5-7 days). However, the prerequisite is that this procedure must be performed by a specialized doctor at a reputable medical facility.
When you have beauty needs, be a smart consumer and choose a reliable medical facility for safe examination and treatment.
The standard procedure includes: Examination, assessment of the nature of the mole, elimination of the risk of malignancy; consultation on appropriate methods: laser or surgical removal; performed in absolutely sterile conditions; instructions on wound care after the procedure.
