On June 24, the Vietnamese community in Nong Khai province, Thailand held an inauguration ceremony for the Vietnam - Thailand Friendship Gate. This is a project designed in Vietnamese architectural culture, built by overseas Vietnamese in Nong Khai province, with the support of local authorities.
Attending the ceremony were: Vietnamese Ambassador to Thailand Phan Chi Thanh; Vietnamese Consulate General in Khon Ken (Thailand) Chu Duc Dung; Governor of Nong Khai province (Thailand) Ra-san Sun-hua and many overseas Vietnamese in Nong Khai.
Speaking at the ceremony, Vietnamese Ambassador to Thailand Phan Chi Thanh said: In 1960, before returning to Vietnam, overseas Vietnamese in Muong district, Nong Khai province joined hands to build a road named "Tha non Viet Nam a nu xon" (overseas Vietnamese souvenir road) using only human power and rudimentary tools such as hoes, shovels, and spades. The project aims to express gratitude to the King and the people of the Kingdom of Thailand for welcoming and taking care of the Vietnamese community in the early days of settling in the Land of Golden Pagodas.
In 2022, to continue the tradition of previous generations, the overseas Vietnamese community in Nong Khai province continued to build the Vietnam - Thailand friendship gate.
Ambassador Phan Chi Thanh emphasized: The road and the friendship gate are proud works of the overseas Vietnamese in Nong Khai province in particular and the Vietnamese community in Thailand in general. This is also a symbol of the strong friendship between the people of Vietnam and Thailand.
On this occasion, Ambassador Phan Chi Thanh also expressed his gratitude to the King, Royal Family, Government and people of Thailand for welcoming, protecting and creating the most favorable conditions for the community of Thai-Vietnamese people to stabilize their lives, integrate into the local society, and become a part of the ethnic community in Thailand.
Governor of Nong Khai Province Rasan Sunhua said: Since the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1976, Thailand and Vietnam have together cultivated a friendship that has grown in all aspects, from socio-economics to cultural exchanges. Thai-Vietnamese people are also an important factor in promoting friendship and trade exchanges, playing a role in preserving the unique characteristics of the Vietnamese people and promoting those unique characteristics to the Thai people.
Emphasizing that the Vietnam - Thailand Friendship Gate is a project that shows the Vietnamese community's affection for Thailand as well as their homeland, Nong Khai Province Governor Ra-san Sun-hua hopes that the gate will forever be a symbol of friendship between the Thai community of Vietnamese origin and the people of Nong Khai Province.
On this occasion, Ambassador Phan Chi Thanh also visited and presented gifts to 11 elderly overseas Vietnamese who contributed to the revolution.
Also on the morning of June 24, Ambassador Phan Chi Thanh met with Governor of Nong Khai Province Rasan Sunhua to promote cooperation between Nong Khai Province and Vietnamese localities./.
