The Daily Mail on July 1 reported on the final decision of the Miss England pageant’s organizing committee regarding the bikini competition. Accordingly, contestants have the option to send photos to the organizing committee with the theme of beachwear instead of wearing bikinis directly on stage to perform in front of the audience and judges.
Previously, Angie Beasley - Director of the Miss England pageant, announced that she was in the process of negotiating to bring the bikini competition back to the Miss England 2023 stage. However, after polls with contestants and debates on television and radio, the decision to ban the bikini competition was made.
Bikini competition cannot return to Miss England pageant
This used to be a favorite part of all beauty pageants.
However, nowadays, beauty contests have changed and developed.
Angie Beasley said that today's beauty pageants are no longer about bikini beauty but mainly "honoring intelligent, successful women". Therefore, this hot competition must be eliminated.
"When asked if they would participate in the bikini competition, some contestants said they would decline, but they would not comment on the contestants who wanted to participate," said Angie Beasley. Contestants suggested that the bikini competition should be left as an option for each individual.
"I know some contestants are disappointed with the elimination of the bikini competition, but we can't please everyone. The competition is constantly evolving and is no longer a display of physical beauty through bikinis but focuses on other factors such as beauty, compassion and intelligence," said Angie Beasley.
Accordingly, Miss England still has all the sections such as talent, fashion , sports, charity projects, etc. Contestants expressed mixed opinions about the results of the bikini competition. Some regretted it because they like bikinis and exercise to look good in this outfit. Some thought that confident women do not need to show off their bodies.
The bikini competition was dropped from the Miss England pageant in 2009.
