The consumer price index (CPI) in July increased by 2.13% compared to December 2024; increased by 3.19% compared to the same period last year. In the 0.11% increase in the consumer price index (CPI) in July compared to the previous month, there were 9 groups of goods and services with increased price indexes; 2 groups of goods and services with decreased price indexes.
Nine groups of goods and services with increased price indexes include:
Firstly, the housing, electricity, water, fuel and construction materials group increased by 0.36% (increasing the overall CPI by 0.07 percentage points), mainly due to price increases in some items such as housing maintenance materials (due to high prices of bricks, sand and stones when supply is scarce, production and transportation costs increase and construction demand is high); household electricity prices increased due to increased demand for electricity when hot weather persists in many areas, especially in the North, Central and from May 10, 2025, Vietnam Electricity Group (EVN) increased household electricity prices; kerosene prices increased by 2.64% due to the impact of price adjustments during the month.
On the contrary, some groups had a price index decrease in July compared to the previous month: House rental price decreased by 0.45% because July coincided with summer vacation, students returned to their hometowns, leading to a decrease in the number of tenants, many homeowners reduced rental prices to retain customers; cooking gas price decreased by 3.33% because the world gas price according to the contract decreased by 25 USD/ton, from 585 USD/ton to 560 USD/ton.
Second, the beverage and tobacco group increased by 0.25% due to high consumer demand during the summer and increased production costs.
Next, the culture, entertainment and tourism group increased by 0.20%. On the contrary, some items had a price index decrease such as: Sports equipment; children's toys.
Groups such as food and catering services increased by 0.18%; household equipment and utensils increased by 0.10%; garments, hats, and footwear increased by 0.06%; and education group increased slightly by 0.01%.

For the group of medicines and medical services, the consumer price index increased by 0.03% due to the increase in exchange rate affecting the cost of importing pharmaceuticals and raw materials. In particular, medical equipment; vitamins and minerals; pain relievers, antipyretics, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, drugs for treating gout and bone diseases; anti-infective drugs, antiparasitic drugs; drugs affecting the respiratory tract and digestive tract.
Two groups of goods and services with price indexes decreasing include: Post and telecommunications group decreased by 0.15%; Transportation group decreased by 0.48%.
Core inflation in July increased by 0.21% compared to the previous month and by 3.3% compared to the same period last year. On average, in the first seven months of 2025, core inflation increased by 3.18% compared to the same period last year, lower than the 3.26% increase of the average CPI, mainly due to the prices of food, foodstuffs, electricity, medical services, and education services, which are factors that increase the CPI but are excluded from the list of goods for calculating core inflation.
