Less than two weeks since Elon Musk stepped into the role of DOGE's head, the billionaire has brought Silicon Valley's work culture to the US government.

“DOGE is working 120 hours a week. Our bureaucratic opponents are working 40 hours a week full of optimism. That’s why they’re losing so fast,” the Minister of Government Efficiency wrote on X on February 2.

A day earlier, he had praised the value of working weekends. “Very few people in the bureaucracy work weekends. It’s like the opposing team playing away for two days.”

Below the article, a user X "shared" the Tesla boss's time: 120 hours/week, equivalent to 17 hours and 8 minutes per day, including Saturday and Sunday.

Musk is famous for his frenetic work culture. He says he often works 120 hours a week and expects the same from his employees.

When he officially took over Twitter (now X) in October 2022, he immediately demanded that the social network's employees work 80 hours a week. According to one productivity expert, Musk's approach is probably the best way to quickly accelerate DOGE.

While 120-hour weeks are not a sustainable or long-term solution, “companies that prioritize efficiency, automation, and proactive cost management consistently outperform those burdened by bureaucracy.”

Roi Ginat, CEO of Endless AI, said Musk’s posts should not be taken literally. “ I believe Musk’s tweet is about effort, not the new norm at DOGE,” he added. When people are overworked and don’t get enough sleep, errors increase.

Ginat, who often works 85 hours a week, says he always thinks about work, but good ideas come to him when he's playing with his children.
