On the afternoon of March 9, answering a reporter's question regarding China opening tours for group visitors to Vietnam from March 15, Deputy Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Pham Thu Hang said that the two sides are maintaining close exchanges on cooperation to promote tourism, including restoring group tourism.

Tourism cooperation is one of the important areas of cooperation between Vietnam and China, both in developing relations and people-to-people exchanges. Before the COVID-19 pandemic, China was the country with the largest number of tourists to Vietnam, and Vietnam was also China's leading tourism partner in the region.

According to the latest information, China plans to add Vietnam to the list of countries that will open for group tourism from March 15. Ms. Pham Thu Hang said that Vietnam hopes to continue to cooperate closely with China to promote tourism, meeting the needs of people of both countries. Vietnam also supports the establishment of international flights to and from localities in the region, thereby enhancing exchanges and promoting cooperation in various fields.

The Chinese government has decided to include Vietnam in the pilot list for opening group tourism in the second phase from March 15. Vietnam will be one of the countries prioritized for consideration of direct flights, waiving the requirement to provide PCR test results 48 hours in advance, and visitors entering the country only need to provide rapid test results or organize a 2% probability test.

The fact that the Chinese authorities have included Vietnam in the pilot list for reopening group tourism in the second phase from March 15 is good news for the tourism industry. With the largest number of outbound tourists in the world and high spending, China is an important source market for all destination countries.

China's opening of group tours to Vietnam from March 15 is considered a "golden" opportunity for the domestic tourism industry to achieve the goal of welcoming 8 million foreign visitors in 2023.
