According to data released by Comscore on April 20, the horror film “Sinners” by Warner Bros. Pictures quickly took the top spot at the North American box office with an impressive revenue of 45.6 million USD in its first week of release.

This is considered a brilliant start for a rare original work in the horror genre and an impressive milestone for director Ryan Coogler, who was nominated for an Oscar for the blockbuster "Black Panther."

“Sinners” marks the reunion of director Ryan Coogler and actor Michael B. Jordan, this time in a unique dual role: twin brothers returning to their hometown in Mississippi - a place they had to leave because of the ghosts of the past.

However, the return trip that seemed to be to start a new life opened the door to a terrible dark force waiting for them...

Inspired by the vampire film genre that blends spiritual and historical horror elements, “Sinners” not only exploits instinctive fear, but also evokes many reflections on painful pasts, religious beliefs and redemption.

“Sinners” impresses with its musical-style cinematic storytelling and captivating camera shots.

Alongside Michael B. Jordan, the film also stars Hailee Steinfeld and Delroy Lindo, creating a cast that is both young and experienced.

In the midst of Easter - the season of resurrection and light - "Sinners" has chosen the right time to convey a thought-provoking message: "The most frightening darkness does not come from outside, but from the unfaced things of the past."

Not only a commercial success, "Sinners" also conquered critics and general audiences.

On Rotten Tomatoes, the film received a positive rating of 98% from 241 reviews, a near-perfect score.

Meanwhile, CinemaScore's survey showed that audiences gave the film an "A" grade, a rare positive sign for horror films.

Internationally, “Sinners” earned an additional $15.4 million, bringing its global total to $61 million in its first three days. Analysts expect the film to continue to boom in the coming weeks as word of mouth spreads.

The second place on the chart of the most popular movies last week in North America belongs to “A Minecraft Movie,” a comedy adapted from the famous video game, with a revenue of 41.3 million USD in its third week of release.

The film has now grossed $344.6 million in North America and $720.8 million worldwide, and is expected to become the first "billion-dollar blockbuster" of 2025.

The next positions in the top 10 highest-grossing films in North America include:

3. "The King of Kings," $17.3 million
4. "The Amateur," $7.2 million
5. "Warfare," $4.9 million
6. "Drop," $3.4 million
7. "Colorful Stage! The Movie: A Miku Who Can't Sing," $2.8 million
8. "Pride and Prejudice" (20th anniversary release), $2.7 million
9. "The Chosen: Last Supper Part 3," $1.7 million
10. "Snow White," $1.2 million./.
