On the afternoon of July 22, 2024, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Headquarters, Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son had a phone call with Uzbek Foreign Minister Bakhtiyor Saidov.

During the phone call, Uzbek Foreign Minister Bakhtiyor Saidov conveyed the President of Uzbekistan's deep condolences to the Party, President To Lam, the Government, the people of Vietnam as well as the family of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, on the passing of the General Secretary. Minister Bakhtiyor Saidov said that in the minds of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev and the people of Uzbekistan, General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong is an excellent and devoted son of the Vietnamese people, an outstanding politician , who has made great contributions to the cause of socio-economic development of Vietnam, contributing to consolidating the prestige and position of Vietnam in the region and in the international arena. General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong has made great contributions to the development of the good and comprehensive cooperative relationship between Vietnam and Uzbekistan and will forever be in the hearts of the people of Uzbekistan.

Uzbek Minister Bakhtiyor Saidov also expressed his gratitude to Minister Bui Thanh Son for his warm welcome during his working visit to Hanoi in March 2024; affirmed that Vietnam is Uzbekistan's leading important partner in Southeast Asia; agreed to continue to strengthen close cooperation between the two countries' Foreign Ministries, contributing to further promoting the Vietnam - Uzbekistan cooperative relationship.

On behalf of the Party, President To Lam, the Government and People of Vietnam as well as the family of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, Minister Bui Thanh Son expressed his gratitude to the President and People of Uzbekistan for their timely encouragement to help Vietnam gain more strength to overcome difficult times.

Minister Bui Thanh Son affirmed that Vietnam always attaches importance to the friendship and multifaceted cooperation with Central Asian countries in general and Uzbekistan in particular, a country with a favorable geographical location and an important role in connecting Asia and Europe. The Minister also expressed his pleasure at the positive developments in the recent past in the relations between the two countries with many bilateral and multilateral contacts; the content of the talks between the two Ministers in March 2024 in Hanoi is being actively implemented by ministries and sectors to promote political and diplomatic cooperation, trade and economic cooperation, agriculture, culture, education, tourism, transportation, and people-to-people exchange.

The two Ministers agreed that the two countries' Foreign Ministries will continue to play a leading role in promoting bilateral cooperation in areas of potential for both sides, through increasing delegation exchanges at all levels, promptly organizing the 8th Meeting of the Intergovernmental Committee on Economic-Trade and Scientific-Technological Cooperation, and maintaining the Deputy Foreign Minister-level Political Consultation mechanism./.
