On May 19, the Department of Food Safety ( Ministry of Health ) said it had sent an official dispatch to the Institute of Nutrition and the Dong Nai Department of Health to request inspection and verification of information about Nestlé Milo products with advertising content related to the clinical trial report of the National Institute of Nutrition as reported by the press recently.
Specifically, on the packaging of Nestlé Vietnam 's Milo instant milk product, there is an advertisement line: "Now scientifically proven to be more durable. Clinically tested by the Institute of Nutrition". This content has caused a lot of controversy, because it is related to a scientific research report of a specialized unit under the Ministry of Health.
The Food Safety Department requested the Dong Nai Department of Health to check, verify information, and handle the advertising of this product according to current regulations.
At the same time, the Department also issued an official dispatch requesting the National Institute of Nutrition to urgently inspect and review the communication and advertising content of these products to ensure compliance with regulations.
Previously, responding to the press, the Institute of Nutrition confirmed that it had coordinated with Nestlé Vietnam to conduct a scientific research project on the effectiveness of physical education activities combined with the use of Milo milk for primary school students.
The study was conducted from June 2022 to March 2023 on 576 students in Ninh Binh province, in the form of a randomized controlled trial in the community.
The results showed that the product did not show any improvement in the nutritional status or mental ability of the students after 3 months. However, students who participated in physical activities according to the curriculum and used Milo products improved their physical qualities such as speed, strength, endurance, flexibility and dexterity.
The Institute of Nutrition said the project had been approved by the local acceptance council. The agency also sent a document requesting Nestlé Vietnam to review all product advertising content. If any information related to the Institute of Nutrition is found to violate regulations, the company must remove it immediately.
"Communication and advertising of food products must comply with legal regulations, while ensuring accuracy when using names and research results of specialized agencies," emphasized a representative of the Institute of Nutrition.
