At Anfield, Ekitike contributed a goal in the 37th minute, then assisted Cody Gakpo to raise the score to 2-0 for Liverpool against Bournemouth. After the match, he was honored to receive the best player award from the organizers.
Ekitike became only the second Liverpool player to score and assist on his Premier League debut, after Darwin Nunez in August 2022. He is also the first French player to score and assist on his debut in the competition.
In the last match, Ekitike had four shots and achieved an expected goals (xG) of 1.05, leading the Liverpool players. He had three shots inside the penalty area, equal to the figures of Mohamed Salah and Gakpo.
Ekitike said he has changed his playing style to suit the Premier League, which is more competitive and intense. "Defenders here are stronger, and the playing space is more cramped. I had more space in Germany, so I tried to move around to find opportunities," Ekitike said.
Ekitike wanted to dedicate the win to the late Liverpool player Diogo Jota. "It was a good performance. I could have done better, but the most important thing today was the win and the spirit we showed. We wanted to win for the people who came here tonight and for Diogo. That's what we did," said Ekitike.
