Foreign blockbusters regain appeal at Vietnamese theaters

After the period when 3 Vietnamese films 'Tunnel: Sun in the Dark' (currently earning 171 billion VND), 'Detective Kien: Headless Case' (200 billion VND) and 'Flip Side 8: Vong Tay Nang' (204 billion VND) dominated Vietnamese theaters, foreign blockbusters began to regain their appeal.

According to the independent box office survey site Box Office Vietnam, the revenue of foreign films last weekend (calculated from Friday to Sunday) was as follows: Holy Night: Demon Hunters (VND14 billion), Thunderbolts: Thunderbolts (VND4.3 billion) , Crayon Shin-chan: School Mystery! The Splendid Tenkasu Academy (VND1.6 billion) , and Night of The Zoopocalypse (VND1.2 billion) . Thus, last week the above foreign films surpassed Tunnel: Sun in the Dark (VND465 million), only behind Detective Kien: Headless Case (VND32 billion) and Flip Side 8: Vong Tay Nang (VND20 billion).

The movie Doraemon: Nobita and the Adventures in the Picture World, which is highly anticipated by young audiences, will be released in theaters from May 23. The Korean blockbuster Yadang: The Three Faces of the Upside Down premiered in Korea on April 16, and is currently leading the Korean box office for two consecutive weeks with a revenue equivalent to VND450 billion, according to data from distribution company CJ CGV. The film will hit Vietnamese theaters on May 16.

Tom Cruise's action blockbuster Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning, which cost up to 400 million USD to produce, will be released in Vietnamese theaters from May 30.
