Accordingly, in order to improve communication capacity and spread social awareness about economical and efficient energy use, the Ministry of Industry and Trade organized a training conference on communication in the field of economical and efficient energy use for more than 50 reporters and editors from news agencies and newspapers in the Northern region.

Green Steps for Vietnam

The event is part of the National Program on Energy Efficiency and Conservation for the 2019-2030 period (VNEEP 3). This year, the National Program on Energy Efficiency and Conservation marks the halfway point of the program’s implementation, while contributing to the implementation of green growth and sustainable development goals and the commitment to achieving “zero” net emissions by 2050 that Vietnam has made at the COP 26, COP 27 and COP 28 Conferences on Climate Change.

Speaking at the conference, Mr. Dang Hai Dung - Deputy Director of the Department of Innovation, Green Transformation and Industrial Promotion - said that 2025 marks an important milestone: We have gone halfway through the implementation of the National Program on Energy Efficiency and Conservation for the 2019-2030 period.

“This is a program strongly directed by the Government, with a very clear goal of saving at least 7-10% of total national energy consumption by 2030, thereby contributing to reducing greenhouse gas emissions, improving the competitiveness of the economy , and ensuring national energy security,” Mr. Dang Hai Dung emphasized.

Vietnam reaffirmed its commitment to achieving net zero emissions by 2050 at COP 26 and reaffirmed it at COP 27 and COP 28. That commitment is not only an international responsibility but also a driving force for us to fundamentally innovate our development methods, towards a green, circular, low-carbon economy.

In that journey, saving energy and electricity is the most practical and effective solution, not only in the short term but also in the long term, to reduce pressure on energy supply, reduce costs for businesses and people and protect the environment.

Deputy Director of the Department of Innovation, Green Transformation and Industrial Promotion informed that according to a survey by the National Program on Energy Efficiency and Conservation for the 2019-2030 period, the potential for energy saving in our country is still very large, especially in the industrial sector, which accounts for over 50% of the total national energy consumption, the potential for energy saving can reach 20-30%.

“Currently, the whole country has over 3,000 key energy-using establishments, with a total electricity consumption of over 80 billion kWh/year. If only these enterprises join hands to save at least 2% of electricity consumption/year, we will save an average of about 1.6 billion kWh/year, equivalent to saving more than 3,200 billion VND in electricity bills; and if all of the more than 30 million electricity customers practice saving electricity, the results will be extremely large,” said Mr. Dang Hai Dung.

The Deputy Director added that on June 18, the National Assembly passed the Law amending and supplementing a number of articles of the Law on Economical and Efficient Use of Energy, which will take effect from January 1, 2026. This is an important legal basis for perfecting policies, strongly promoting energy-saving solutions, managing electricity demand, developing green technology and innovation in the energy sector.

In the process of implementing major policies, communication plays a very important role. Accurate, timely, relevant and in-depth information on energy saving and efficiency is the “key” to spreading awareness, arousing community responsibility and promoting behavioral change throughout society.

However, according to Mr. Dang Hai Dung, this is a field considered "dry - difficult - miserable", requiring journalists not only to have a solid grasp of expertise and technical knowledge but also to have storytelling skills, to build creative, easy-to-understand and inspiring perspectives.

Therefore, the Ministry of Industry and Trade organized today's training course to support reporters and editors: Update the latest information on policies, laws, and national programs on energy saving and efficiency; exchange and share practical experiences, information exploitation skills, and use of technical terms; especially, learn how to tell attractive energy stories related to the lives of each person and each business.

The Deputy Director of the Department of Innovation, Green Transformation and Industrial Promotion highly appreciated the support of the Industry and Trade Newspaper in implementing the VNEEP 3 program. He also received support from leaders and experts from the Vietnam Journalists Association, the Association for Energy Efficiency and Conservation, the University of Electricity, the Vietnam Electricity Group, and press agencies in promoting this field in recent times.

“With the enthusiastic contribution of reporters, editors, and important information bridges, communication about energy saving and efficiency will spread more strongly and practically,” Mr. Dang Hai Dung believes.

Within the framework of the training conference, reporters and editors will: Be updated with new policies and laws on energy saving. Overview of the results of the implementation of the VNEEP 3 program in the past time. Exchange journalism skills in the energy sector, including how to exploit and use technical terms, build stories and new perspectives to approach readers...
