Quang Ngai is urgently reviewing land resources to arrange resettlement for residents.
The North-South high-speed railway project is a national transportation mega-project of unprecedented scale, with a total length of approximately 1,545 km, a design speed of up to 350 km/h, connecting key economic regions along the North-South axis.
The section passing through Quang Ngai province alone is over 86 km long, from Km 800+100 (Binh Minh commune) to Km 886+400 (Khanh Cuong commune), using more than 561 hectares of land, mainly agricultural land, and traversing 17 communes in the province. A station will be located west of Quang Ngai city.
According to statistics, the locality currently has 23 resettlement areas and 17 reburial areas that were previously used in major infrastructure projects, such as the Quang Ngai - Hoai Nhon expressway and the Da Nang - Quang Ngai expressway. Of these, approximately 1,505 land plots and 2,759 burial plots are still vacant and ready for immediate use.
However, according to assessments by relevant authorities, the available land is insufficient to meet the needs of relocating residents and reburying graves along the entire railway line. Therefore, the province is developing a plan to add dozens of new resettlement areas and centralized burial sites, especially in localities where large-scale projects have never been implemented.

According to the plan, along with many other localities nationwide, Quang Ngai will hold a groundbreaking ceremony on August 19th for the construction of a resettlement area to serve the high-speed railway. The chosen location is expected to be the OM6 land development project, covering nearly 6 hectares in Son Tinh commune. This will serve as a model for subsequent resettlement areas.
Mr. Dang Xuan Trung, Chairman of the Son Tinh Commune People's Committee, said that the local government has proactively coordinated with relevant departments and agencies to review the list of affected households and allocate suitable land. At the same time, they are stepping up propaganda efforts to gain people's consensus on the government's major policy.
"We regularly hold public meetings, publicly disclose planning information, and encourage residents to hand over the land. To date, most people have supported the plan and are ready to relocate when a decision is made," said Mr. Dang Xuan Trung.
According to Pham Viet Ha, Deputy Director of the Quang Ngai Provincial Department of Construction, localities along the project route have proactively and urgently reviewed the total number of affected households subject to relocation and resettlement. They are also coordinating surveys of potential resettlement sites, prioritizing locations that align with relevant planning.
To ensure coordinated implementation, the Department of Construction held meetings with leaders of 17 communes and wards through which the railway line passes, requesting a review of the current population situation, an assessment of land availability, and proposals for suitable areas. Local authorities were also tasked with strengthening public awareness campaigns and gathering public opinions to minimize potential complaints during the implementation process.
"Gathering public opinion and ensuring close coordination between all levels and sectors are decisive factors in guaranteeing that the land clearance process proceeds smoothly, openly, and transparently," a leader of the Department of Construction shared.
According to the plan, all land clearance work for the high-speed railway line in Quang Ngai province must be completed and handed over before the end of 2026.
