The decision will officially take effect on May 6, thereby bringing Brazil back to the organization that was built during the second term of President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva.
On April 7, Brazil officially announced that it would rejoin the Union of South American Nations (UNASUR) - an organization that it withdrew from in 2019.
"In the process of reconnecting with key international alliances, Brazil will once again join the Union of South American Nations," the Brazilian Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
The decision will officially take effect on May 6, thereby "returning the country to the organization that was built during the second term of President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva."
Brazil's Foreign Ministry affirmed that the country is "committed to integrating South America into a region of peace and cooperation, in line with efforts to promote regional integration."
UNASUR was established in 2008, an intergovernmental regional organization that once included 12 South American countries. Brazil officially withdrew from the organization in April 2019./.
