At the press conference summarizing two national target programs including new rural development and sustainable poverty reduction. Mr. Nguyen Le Binh, Deputy Chief of the National Office for Poverty Reduction, said that by the end of 2025, the country is expected to have 1.25 million poor and near-poor households, a decrease of more than 1.123 million households compared to 2021. This figure has exceeded by 2.49% the target of reducing by half the number of poor and near-poor households according to the national multidimensional poverty standard.
The poverty line for the period 2022 - 2025 is based on two criteria: income (households with an average income of 1.5 million VND/person in rural areas; 2 million VND/person in urban areas), and the level of deprivation of basic social services (employment; health;education ; housing; water and sanitation; information). The poverty rate according to the multidimensional poverty line decreases by an average of 1.03% per year. Poor households of ethnic minorities also decrease by 4.45% per year.
