Women's Unions at all levels join hands to protect and care for children

Implementing the National Action Program for Children for the period 2021-2025, the Women's Union at all levels in the province has deployed many practical activities, contributing to effectively caring for children in difficult circumstances, building a safe and healthy living environment for children to develop comprehensively.

Provincial Women's Union awarded Nguyen Thi Be scholarships to students in difficult circumstances.

Over the past 5 years, communication andeducation on children's rights have been promoted by the Women's Union at all levels with more than 3,140 propaganda sessions, attracting nearly 96,000 women to participate. The content focuses on disseminating the Law on Children, skills to prevent and combat violence and child abuse, prevent accidents and injuries, and build a safe and friendly educational environment.

In addition, many creative communication activities were organized such as the "Safe House" painting contest with the participation of 21 families; the 2023 child abuse prevention communication product creation contest attracted 86 entries. These activities contributed to strongly spreading the message of love and responsibility towards children in the community.

With the spirit of "leaving no child behind", the work of supporting children in difficult circumstances has always been of interest to the Women's Union at all levels. From 2021 to present, the whole province has mobilized to present 10,717 gifts, worth more than 3.6 billion VND; awarded 745 scholarships worth 445 million VND to studious female students. The Provincial Women's Union alone has awarded 236 Nguyen Thi Be scholarships with a total value of nearly 1 billion VND.

Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan, residing in Thanh Long commune (Chau Thanh district) is one of the students receiving the Nguyen Thi Be scholarship. Her family is in difficult circumstances, her grandmother is old, her parents are often sick, and their life mainly depends on unstable wages.

Loving her parents, she always tries to study hard and achieve good results. In 2023, she was awarded the Nguyen Thi Be scholarship worth 4 million VND by the Provincial Women's Union. In 2024, when she was admitted to Ho Chi Minh City University of Agriculture and Forestry, she continued to receive 10 million VND from the Union to cover her study expenses.

She shared: “I am very grateful to the teachers at the Provincial Women's Union for their care and support, which gave me more motivation to continue studying. I will try to study well so that in the future I can help people in difficult circumstances like me.”

The “Godmother” program was effectively implemented, caring for and nurturing orphans due to COVID-19 and children in especially difficult circumstances, with a total budget of nearly 2.8 billion VND. Four outstanding mother-child pairs in the program were selected to attend the “Sunflower” Summer Camp organized by the Central Association, each child was given a savings book worth 10 million VND.

Cultural activities and healthy entertainment for children are regularly organized by the Association.

Children's health care is also focused on. The Association at all levels coordinated with the health sector to organize 8 communication sessions on dengue fever prevention and control, encouraging 576 children of the right age to take vitamin A on schedule. At the same time, medical examinations, free medicine and gifts were organized for 340 children, with a total cost of more than 153 million VND.

At the same time, the Association at all levels maintains and improves the quality of activities of 74 Happy Family Building Clubs, 109 "Trusted Addresses in the Community" and dozens of clubs and groups of women raising children such as "Mother and Daughter", "Good Father of Children", "Group to Protect Children at Risk of Dropping Out of School"... These are practical models, helping to equip knowledge and skills to raise children and protect children from the risks of violence and abuse.

Cultural and healthy recreational activities for children are also regularly organized, attracting more than 8,900 children to participate. Children can participate in storytelling, painting, folk games, mobile libraries... with a total cost of more than 311 million VND.

Chairwoman of the Provincial Women's Union Phan Thi Thuy Van said: "In the coming time, the Union at all levels will continue to innovate propaganda methods, replicate effective models, and strongly mobilize social resources to better care for children; promptly speak up and coordinate to resolve cases related to children, especially in remote and border areas; contribute to creating a safe and healthy living environment, ensuring the rights and legitimate interests of children, thereby promoting comprehensive development for the future generations of the province."

The results achieved in recent times show the increasingly clear role of the Association in protecting and caring for children. This is also the foundation for the Association at all levels to continue to improve the effectiveness of its activities, proactively participate with other sectors in building a positive living environment, helping children have conditions for comprehensive development, and excel in their studies and lives.
