After social media spread images of a 25,000 VND boarding meal consisting of only rice, an egg, a few slices of ham and vegetable soup at Ba Don Primary School No. 1 (Ba Don Ward, Quang Tri Province), on October 7, Ms. Tran Thi Minh Thuy, the school's principal, sent a letter of apology to parents and students.

In the letter, Ms. Thuy acknowledged the school’s responsibility for not closely monitoring meals, leading to “meal portions that did not meet parents’ expectations and were of poor quality.” She offered her sincere and profound apologies and pledged to rectify the entire meal provision process.
The principal also said that from now on, each meal will be photographed and sent to the class group for parents to monitor directly. Homeroom teachers are assigned to monitor and update images daily to increase transparency.

Previously, SGGP newspaper reported that many parents complained about poor quality of school meals for many weeks. The representative of the supplier explained that it was due to “negligence” and “slow delivery of food after the storm”. Meanwhile, the Economic Department of Ba Don Ward confirmed that it was requesting a report from the school.
The incident attracted a lot of attention on social networks, many opinions said that at 25,000 VND/meal, such a lunch is "too poor" and "not worthy of parents' trust".
