Amorim wants the players to work overtime in the middle of the week. |
The Red Devils missed out on European football when they lost to Tottenham in the Europa League final in May, and finished 15th in the Premier League. An early exit from the League Cup to Grimsby means they have just one midweek game before Christmas – a home game against West Ham on December 3.
Coach Ruben Amorim can take advantage of this free time to arrange a series of “semi-official” friendly matches with many big clubs that are not participating in European Cup, such as AC Milan, RB Leipzig, Lazio or Sevilla. This will be an opportunity for the players to maintain their peak playing rhythm, while also bringing in additional income.
For example, a game against Milan in the UAE could earn Man Utd a significant amount of money, while other “Big Six” rivals are still busy fighting in the Champions League. Although this amount cannot be compared to the income from European tickets, it is still enough to offset some of the financial losses.
Last summer, United earned around £7.8m from their tour of Asia and nearly reached that mark on their tour of the US a month later. If they split the revenue with Milan, United could earn half that amount, or even more if they play Leipzig or Lazio.
In parallel, coach Amorim considered organizing "team building" trips during the season, such as to the Algarve or the Middle East, to help players have more time together outside the training ground, increasing cohesion in the locker room.
