Activities of Deputy Minister Phan Thi Thang within the framework of the official visit to Uzbekistan of National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man

From April 5 to 8, 2025, Deputy Minister Phan Thi Thang joined the high-ranking Vietnamese delegation led by National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man to attend the 150th Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU-150) on an official visit to Uzbekistan. This is an important visit in promoting all-round cooperation between Vietnam and Uzbekistan, especially in the fields of politics, diplomacy, economics, trade and investment.

During the working trip to Uzbekistan, Deputy Minister Phan Thi Thang accompanied National Assembly Chairwoman Tran Thanh Man in official activities such as meeting with President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev, holding talks with the Chairman of the Legislative Yuan of the National Assembly of Uzbekistan, visiting Tashkent Oriental University and meeting teachers and students studying Vietnamese, attending the Vietnam - Uzbekistan Business Forum; meeting with the Vietnamese community in Uzbekistan. In addition, Deputy Minister Phan Thi Thang had a bilateral working session with the Ministry of Investment, Industry and Trade of Uzbekistan, signing the Joint Action Plan on promoting economic and trade cooperation for the period 2025-2026 between Vietnam and Uzbekistan and exchanging the signing documents under the witness of the Chairman of the National Assembly of Vietnam and the Deputy Prime Minister of Uzbekistan.

Among the contents discussed by the two sides, economic - trade - investment cooperation is an important pillar in the Vietnam - Uzbekistan relationship. Economic, trade and investment relations between Vietnam and Uzbekistan have had very positive developments in recent times. In 2024, trade exchange between the two sides reached 202 million USD (the highest level ever), an increase of 26.5% compared to 2023. Currently, Uzbekistan is Vietnam's second largest trading partner in the Central Asia region, while Vietnam is Uzbekistan's largest trading partner in Southeast Asia.

Vietnam - Uzbekistan relations are entering a period of good development, moving towards new heights based on shared benefits, cooperation achievements, and friendship cultivated after more than 30 years of establishing diplomatic relations.

The official visit to the Republic of Uzbekistan by National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man affirmed Vietnam's consistent policy of always attaching importance to and wishing to strengthen relations with traditional friendly countries, including Uzbekistan; exchanging measures to promote cooperation between the Vietnamese National Assembly and the Uzbekistan National Assembly; creating a favorable environment to promote bilateral cooperation, especially in the fields of economics, trade, investment, education , training, culture, etc.

Currently, Uzbekistan is Vietnam's second largest trading partner in Central Asia, while Vietnam is Uzbekistan's largest trading partner in Southeast Asia.

In 2024, trade between the two sides will reach 202.0 million USD, an increase of 26.5% over the same period in 2023. Of which, Vietnam's exports will reach 128.61 million USD (up 75.0%), and imports will reach 73.38 million USD (down 14.9%).

Vietnam's main exports to Uzbekistan include: phones of all kinds and components, computers, electronic products and components, machinery, equipment, tools, other spare parts, rubber products, and 9-seat car components. Vietnam's main imports from Uzbekistan include: fertilizers of all kinds, textile materials, leather, shoes, and cotton of all kinds.
