With advanced science and technology and great investment efforts from the government, Canadian agricultural products have achieved strict international standards of quality and have always been the first choice in many developed countries around the world in Europe, America and especially Asia- Pacific for many years. In 2022, Canada ranked 7th in the Global Food Security Index, in which Canada's safety and quality factors achieved the highest score in the world, reaching 89.5/100 points.

According to the results of the "Vietnam Consumer Survey - Recovery, Rebalance and Innovation" in October 2022 by Deloitte, quality is the factor that Vietnamese consumers pay the most attention to when choosing food and beverages. Therefore, imported products that are safe and meet high quality standards are becoming a prominent choice of Vietnamese consumers.

Following the successful cooperation between Canada and countries in the Asia- Pacific region, Canadian agricultural products are increasingly popular in Vietnam thanks to their sustainability, high quality and reasonable prices. This is an important premise to strengthen trade relations between Canada and Vietnam.

From 2023, the Government of Canada is determined to promote food on digital platforms to bring more quality products and enhance the recognition of Canadian food in Vietnam.

In Canada, organic and sustainable products are trending. Mr. Behzad Babakhani, Consul General of Canada in Ho Chi Minh City, shared that in the past, people were often hesitant and thought that organic products were very expensive. However, as the demand for health and environmental protection is increasing, many sustainable farming methods have been developed and Canada is leading in this field. Thanks to that, the price of organic products is decreasing to reach more consumers.

"I believe that organic food is not only better for the body, but also brings a better future," Mr. Behzad Babakhani emphasized.

In fact, Canada’s top agricultural and food exports to Vietnam in recent years have been quite diverse, with staple foods such as cereals, oilseeds, seafood, beef, pork, fruits, and processed food products. For example, in 2022, the export value of beef products from Canada to Vietnam continued to grow strongly, reaching 55%. Vietnam is also one of the two largest import markets for Canadian beef in Southeast Asia.

Mr. Jeffrey Lang, representative of the Canadian Government at the event, shared: "Vietnam has always been one of the most important markets in the Asia-Pacific region for us. Through this campaign, we hope to strengthen our image with Vietnamese consumers as a supplier of nutritious, high-quality food that meets the most stringent standards in the world and ensures sustainability in agricultural production."

Vietnam has been Canada's number one trading partner in ASEAN since 2015 and Canada is among Vietnam's 10 largest import partners. Bilateral trade growth in general and the agricultural sector in particular has been contributed by the CPTPP Agreement, which came into effect in 2019. The Agreement's tariff reduction roadmap, when completed, will help 94% of agricultural products from Canada exported to Vietnam enjoy 0% tax incentives. Thanks to that, high-quality, nutritious and delicious Canadian products will be more and more competitive in the Vietnamese market./.
