On the evening of September 11 local time, the annual MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs) ceremony lit up the UBS Arena stadium in Long Island, New York (USA).
This year's event was special as most of the prestigious awards were given to female artists, along with impressive performances.
Singer Taylor Swift won “Best Collaboration” for her collaboration “Fortnight” with rapper Post Malone.
Taylor opened his speech with a moment of remembrance for the victims of the 9/11 terrorist attacks, which took place 23 years ago.
She was also later honored as “Artist of the Year” at the 2024 VMAs.
“Fortnight” is a song from Taylor Swift's latest album - “The Tortured Poets Department.”
Beating out competitors like Billie Eilish, Eminem and SZA, the haunting black-and-white music video for “Fortnight” went on to win “Video of the Year” – marking the third consecutive year Taylor Swift has won the award.
Leading with 12 nominations at this year's awards ceremony, Taylor Swift won in 6 categories, becoming the artist who won the most awards at a VMAs award ceremony ever, along with Beyonce.
“Song of the Year” went to singer Sabrina Carpenter with the song “Espresso.”
Sabrina emotionally shared that this was truly something special, and expressed her gratitude to those who loved and supported her.
The singer also took to the VMA stage to perform songs that have taken the music charts by storm this year, such as "Please Please Please," "Taste" and "Espresso."
Rising star Chappell Roan also took home the award for “Best New Artist,” with a spectacular medieval-themed performance.
Dressed in armour and wielding crossbows, Chappell Roan's act is recreated in grand style with burning castle gates and elaborately choreographed moves.
Singer Katy Perry received the prestigious “Video Vanguard Award” at this year's awards ceremony.
In response to the fans' affection, she delivered an eye-catching performance with a medley of her greatest hits such as "Roar," "Teenage Dream" and "Firework."
Additionally, Katy Perry also introduced her new song, "I'm His, He's Mine," featuring American rapper Doechii.
For “Best Afrobeats Song,” young South African artist Tyla won with the song “Water,” which has already created a popular trend across multiple social media platforms.
This year's awards night featured many spectacular performances, including rap legend Eminem's songs "Houdini" and "Somebody Save Me."
Appearing for the first time as a solo artist, singer Lisa of the famous Korean girl group Blackpink also brought a vibrant performance on the VMAs stage with new songs "New Woman" and "Rockstar" - the song won the award for "Best Kpop Song"./.
