Starting in July and August, rental prices in areas with a high concentration of universities in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City have been soaring due to the student enrollment season. However, this year's rental prices have unexpectedly increased sharply, leaving many students distraught as they struggle to afford living expenses.
Speaking to Dan Viet newspaper, universities said that the demand for student dormitory accommodation is always high every year, and it is even higher this year.
Representatives from the Water Resources University stated that the university is currently processing student enrollment and dormitory registrations. Each year, the university's dormitories provide accommodation for 350-400 students in various room types. This year, the number of students registering is very high.

Mr. Le Duc Truong, student support specialist at the Foreign Trade University, informed: "Students will register for dormitory accommodation from 8:00 AM on August 27th to 30th. The dormitory is divided into two types of rooms: 6-bed and 8-bed. For priority students, the dormitory fee is 150,000 VND/month, while for non-priority students it is 300,000 VND/month. In addition, students are exempt from water charges and 7 kilowatt-hours of electricity per month. Students who need food can eat at the canteen. According to regulations, the dormitory closes at 11:00 PM."
According to Mr. Truong, the criteria for residing in the school's dormitory are based on regulations from the Ministry of Education and Training: Those who are Labor Heroes or Heroes of the Armed Forces; Children of martyrs; Children of wounded soldiers, sick soldiers, or those with certificates entitling them to benefits similar to wounded soldiers; Children of resistance fighters exposed to chemical toxins – those certified by the Provincial People's Committee as having deformities, disabilities, or reduced self-reliance in daily life and studies due to the effects of chemical toxins; Orphaned students; Students belonging to ethnic minorities in Vietnam.
The student application process is quite simple, including a dormitory application form (available), an admission letter, and other relevant documents.
However, Mr. Truong also said: "I've looked into it and found that rental prices this year are quite high in all areas. This is worrying for students, especially those from distant provinces. Rental rooms near the school, around 20 square meters, cost between 3.5 and 5 million VND per month."
For students who don't qualify for dormitory accommodation, the student support center provides counseling, and the university's Youth Union runs a "Finding Accommodation with a Friend" program. Through the fan page, students can find rooms to rent, find roommates, and are connected with landlords with quite detailed information. In addition, the student support center assists students in purchasing bus and train tickets for those who need to rent accommodation further away to make commuting more convenient and cheaper.

Mr. Tran Ngoc Thin, Director of the Training Support Service Center at the National Economics University, also stated: "Students who needed dormitory accommodation registered in advance, and the university accepted them early. Currently, students with difficult circumstances have received support."
According to Mr. Truong, the university's dormitory provides accommodation for 2,600 students, including international students. Priority is given to students from disadvantaged backgrounds, and there are also rooms available for other students who need them. However, due to limited room availability and high demand, the university has assisted students in finding off-campus accommodation, such as at the Ngu Hiep and Phap Van dormitory centers.
Students at the school started receiving their dormitories on September 1st. This year, there are quite a lot of students from the southern regions registering to study at the school, such as from Ca Mau, Binh Duong , Lam Dong, Ho Chi Minh City, Dak Lak... and the school is giving them more priority support.
A representative from the Open University stated: "The university always accompanies and supports students by introducing them to dormitories with preferential prices at the Phap Van Student Housing Area, Thanh Tri, Hanoi (near Nuoc Ngam Bus Station). The cost here is 205,000 VND/month. In addition, the university also helps students find rental accommodation through reputable fan pages or apps."

Hanoi National University announced that it has four dormitory complexes: the Foreign Language Dormitory, the Me Tri Dormitory, the My Dinh Dormitory, and the Hoa Lac Campus Dormitory. These dormitories provide accommodation for high school students, undergraduate students, graduate students, doctoral candidates, and international students.
From the 2024 academic year, the dormitory system at the Hoa Lac campus will be able to accommodate nearly 6,000 students, providing the best possible service. According to the plan, Hanoi National University will open online registration for new students in mid-September 2024.
