Cambodia arrests 2 suspects using Hun Sen's name to commit fraud

Cambodian authorities have arrested two suspects in a case of using the name of Cambodian Senate President Hun Sen to scam people through the social network Telegram, appropriating $180,000 from many victims, according to Khmer Times.

The Khmer Times reported today, February 22, that the suspects declared on Telegram that their activities received support from Cambodian Senate President Hun Sen.

The Cybercrime Prevention Department of the Ministry of Interior of Cambodia launched an investigation on February 16, which led to the bust of the scam. The investigation was conducted under the orders of General Sar Thet (National Police Director General) and under the direction of Lieutenant General Dy Vichea (Deputy National Police Director General).

In coordination with the Phnom Penh Municipal Court Prosecutor's Office, the Technology Crime Prevention Department arrested two suspects, including KSN (female), who worked at a beauty salon, and BTM (male), who worked as a parking lot security guard at a shopping mall.

According to the investigation results of the authorities, the two suspects defrauded the victim of about 180,000 USD. Khmer Times did not specify the fraudulent activities of the two suspects.

Currently, the two suspects have been transferred by the Case Development Department to the Phnom Penh Municipal Court for legal action.

Through the above incident, the Cambodian Cybercrime Prevention Department reminded people to be careful before deciding to invest money online and to carefully consider advertising sources about different online investments in advance to avoid losing benefits and assets in any case, according to Khmer Times .
