Nearly 4 million folded paper hearts have been displayed at Angkor Archaeological Park, in Siem Reap province, northwestern Cambodia.
The event aims to welcome the 32nd Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games 32) scheduled to take place in May and the 12th Southeast Asian Para Games (ASEAN Para Games 12) in June.
The above heart-shaped paper folding project was carried out by the Union of Cambodian Youth Federations (UYFC).
Official judge of the Guinness World Records, Ms. Tomomi Sekioka, confirmed that with nearly 4 million paper hearts, UYFC has set a new world record, surpassing the previous record achieved in the UK with 53,704 paper hearts displayed on February 9, 2019.
Speaking at the record announcement event, UYFC President Hun Many said the heart-shaped paper folding project was to show support for all Cambodian athletes competing in the sports event that the country will host for the first time in 64 years.
“This is a new source of pride for Cambodia, as well as a demonstration of our spirit of love and solidarity,” he stressed.
