Matte paint may not be everyone’s cup of tea, but Toyota seems to think it’s a growing trend. A few months after the Crown Estate debuted in Japan, Toyota has unveiled a special Limited Matte Metal version of the model that’s capitalizing on the matte paint trend. Compared to the regular version, the Toyota Crown Estate Limited Matte Metal has the same overall design. The highlight of this model is the new matte gray paint color. Previously, Toyota also applied matte paint color to other members of the new generation Crown line in the land of cherry blossoms, including Crossover, Sport and Sedan.
Many car enthusiasts agree that matte paint, when applied properly, can add a touch of class and personality to a vehicle. However, it often requires a lot of care to maintain its perfect appearance. With the Crown Estate Limited Matte Metal, Toyota claims to have found the right balance between style and practicality through a special paint process. Accordingly, the exterior paint is covered with a special protective layer called TM Coat, which helps increase scratch resistance and prevent dirt from the road. It can be said that TM Coat acts as a ceramic coating, although Toyota does not describe it this way. According to Toyota, this coating will last about a year before needing to be reapplied. The Toyota Crown Estate Limited Matte Metal also features a new set of 21-inch matte black wheels, along with striking red metallic brake calipers. Like other “Limited Matte Black” versions of the Crown range, all the original chrome details, from the window trim to the exterior accents, have been finished in black.
The interior of the Toyota Crown Estate Special Edition also gets a few tweaks. Most of the cabin is covered in black leather with some gold accents on the steering wheel, air vents, door handles and center console. The special words “Matte Metal The Limited” are also engraved on the dashboard as a sign of recognition. Toyota will sell the Crown Estate Limited Matte Metal in the Japanese market with one engine type. Accordingly, the car is equipped with a plug-in hybrid electric powertrain (PHEV), including a 4-cylinder, naturally aspirated, 2.5L gasoline engine, combined with two electric motors, for a total capacity of up to 302 horsepower.
In the Japanese market, the new special edition of the Toyota Crown Estate has a starting price of 8.9 million Yen, equivalent to 1.6 billion VND at the current exchange rate. Although the Crown Estate is sold in the North American market under the name Crown Signia, this unique version with special paint will be exclusive to its home country of Japan.
