Extending Metro Line 1 (Ben Thanh - Suoi Tien) connecting Binh Duong and Dong Nai requires a total investment of VND 86,150 billion, equivalent to more than USD 3.6 billion.
That is part of the content that the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Transport has just sent to the City People's Committee and the provinces of Dong Nai and Binh Duong to propose comments to complete the report on extending Metro Line 1. This is done according to the conclusion at the meeting between local leaders in May.
Metro Line 1 (Ben Thanh - Suoi Tien) is the first urban railway in Ho Chi Minh City. The route has a total length of nearly 20 km, from Ben Thanh Station (District 1) to Long Binh Depot (Thu Duc City).

According to the proposed plan, Metro Line No. 1 from Suoi Tien bus station (near the new Mien Dong bus station) will be built with an elevated section on the right side of Highway 1, then turn left to connect to Binh Thang station (S0 station) before Tan Van intersection (Binh Duong).
In the above area, the metro line is divided into two branches. One branch is 18.3 km long, running on high ground to Dong Nai province, connecting points such as Vung Tau intersection, Sat market, Ho Nai 3 commune (Trang Bom district). The other branch to Binh Duong is nearly 30 km long, built on high ground. From station S0, the line runs through Binh Chuan intersection, then connects to Binh Duong Industrial - Urban - Service Complex (Ben Cat town, Tan Uyen city and Thu Dau Mot city).
The total budget of more than 86,000 billion VND is used for compensation, support and resettlement for affected people; construction costs, equipment, project management, consulting, contingency, price slippage... Ho Chi Minh City Department of Transport proposed to use public investment capital to implement the project.

Specifically, section 1 of the route from Suoi Tien Bus Station to S0 Station, with a cost of nearly VND3,000 billion, is implemented by Ho Chi Minh City. Section 2 of the route from S0 Station extended to Binh Duong Province, with an investment capital of more than VND51,700 billion, is implemented by Binh Duong Province, and section 3 of the route from S0 Station extended to Dong Nai, with a cost of over VND31,400 billion, is implemented by Dong Nai.
According to the planning approved by the Prime Minister in 2021, the regional metro system will have 8 routes. These are Trang Bom - Hoa Hung, Bien Hoa - Vung Tau, Di An - Loc Ninh, Ho Chi Minh City - Can Tho , Ho Chi Minh City - Nha Trang, Thu Thiem - Long Thanh, Ho Chi Minh City - Tay Ninh and dedicated railway routes connecting Hiep Phuoc port.
