Previously, the patient had a lot of pain when moving, and his shoulder joint almost completely lost its function in daily activities. The patient's family said that he had a history of alcoholism. The surgery was performed by Master - Doctor Phan The Nhut and Doctor CK2 Tran Anh Dung, Head of the Department of Trauma and Burn Surgery and completed in about 2 hours.

According to doctors, grade 4 humeral head necrosis is complete avascular necrosis of the humeral head, leading to pain and limited shoulder joint movement. These severe injuries often do not respond to medical treatment with drugs or physical therapy. Without surgery, the disease can progress to grade 5 (at this stage, the glenoid cavity of the shoulder blade will be further damaged and total shoulder replacement will be required).

However, this technique can help patients recover quickly and improve the quality of life for patients with severely damaged shoulder joints.

According to Dr. Nhut, artificial shoulder replacement is not only indicated for patients with severe avascular necrosis of the humeral head but also indicated for patients with severe shoulder osteoarthritis, complex humeral head fractures, inability to fuse bones, rheumatoid arthritis with severe joint destruction, severe rotator cuff tears that cannot be surgically repaired, etc. At this time, shoulder replacement helps reduce shoulder pain and improve shoulder range of motion.
