Patient NTP, (43 years old) was admitted to the lower level hospital in a state of fatigue and difficulty breathing, diagnosed with: Arrhythmia/cirrhosis, alcoholism.
The patient was then transferred to An Giang Central General Hospital and admitted to the Intensive Care Unit in a state of respiratory failure, shock, and arrhythmia.
After doing paraclinical tests, the results were: Cirrhosis due to long-term alcohol consumption, very large heart, dilated heart chambers, severe reduction in ejection fraction (EF) to 26%, 4/4 tricuspid regurgitation, 2/4 mitral regurgitation and a blood clot in the left heart chamber...
The patient was diagnosed with: Acute heart failure due to alcoholic dilated cardiomyopathy, rapid response atrial fibrillation/cirrhosis, alcoholism. The patient was treated aggressively with intravenous fluids, cardiovascular support drugs, intubation and mechanical ventilation for respiratory support, and other medications.
Currently, the patient is still in very serious condition, requiring ventilator support and vasopressor drugs to help the heart muscle contract, but the treatment results are still not positive.
According to statistics in the US, alcohol is the second leading cause of dilated cardiomyopathy and accounts for 3.8% of all cases of cardiomyopathy.
To maintain good health, doctors recommend: People should limit alcohol as much as possible and absolutely not use any stimulants, because once the heart muscle is damaged and dilated, the ability to recover is very low.
