In the past 2 weeks, Lai Chau Social Insurance has continuously received complaints from retired officials, the elderly as well as the people about subjects impersonating Social Insurance officials calling, claiming to be employees of the provincial Social Insurance agency to guide, even requesting to provide personal information to "integrate health insurance cards into ID cards". These sophisticated fraudulent acts make many people, especially the elderly, easily trust and follow, potentially exposing personal information, insecure bank accounts and directly affecting legitimate rights.
Ms. Tran Bich (retired officer of Tan Phong ward) shared: “A few days ago, someone called me and said that he was a social insurance officer and asked to provide the health insurance card number to integrate into the ID card. They asked me to provide information and follow the instructions to integrate right on the phone. I was hesitant so I called the social insurance officer directly. Later I found out that it was a scam. If I had not been careful, I could have lost all my personal information and money in my account.”
Provincial social insurance officers propagate to retired officers the trick of impersonating provincial social insurance officers to commit fraud.
According to the provincial Social Insurance, the Social Insurance agency does not call or send officers to people's homes to request personal information or integrate health insurance cards into citizen identification cards (CCCD). This integration is done completely free of charge at the police agency or through the VNeID application, the National Public Service Portal, without going through any other intermediary, organization or individual. If people follow the instructions of the impersonator, the consequences can be very serious, not only personal information is leaked, health insurance card numbers, CCCD numbers, even bank accounts are exploited by criminals to steal money, or use personal information for illegal activities. Especially, it directly affects health insurance and social insurance benefits, causing difficulties in resolving the regime later.
Mr. Dinh Gia Tang - Director of Lai Chau Social Insurance said: "Up to now, no individual in the province has lost money or had their information leaked, but the situation of scammers taking advantage of people's lack of information to make profits is increasing and becoming more complicated. We have widely announced on mass media, social networks, zalo groups... to raise people's awareness. Any act of impersonating social insurance officers for profit will be strictly handled by the provincial Social Insurance in coordination with relevant agencies according to the law.
From the above developments, it can be seen that the methods of impersonating social insurance officers to commit fraud are increasingly sophisticated, targeting vulnerable subjects such as the elderly, retirees, and people in remote areas. Therefore, every citizen needs to be vigilant, absolutely do not provide personal information to strange phone numbers or social network accounts; at the same time, promptly notify the social insurance agency or competent authorities when detecting suspicious signs. The initiative and alertness of the people are an important "shield" that contributes to preventing fraudulent acts, protecting information security and legitimate rights of individuals.
