The Xuyen Tam Canal renovation project is a key project of Ho Chi Minh City, of great significance in improving the environment, preventing flooding and beautifying densely populated areas.

On October 3, Vice Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Bui Xuan Cuong signed and issued a directive document of the Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee on implementing the conclusion of Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee Tran Luu Quang at the survey and inspection of the progress of the dredging project, environmental improvement, and infrastructure construction of Xuyen Tam canal.

Accordingly, the Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee assigned the Department of Agriculture and Environment to preside over and coordinate with relevant units to establish a specialized working group and a supporting advisory group.

The working group is tasked with focusing on directing and resolving the compensation, support and resettlement work of the project, completing it before October 5, 2025. At the same time, every two weeks, the working group must report on progress, propose to the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee to review and direct timely handling of issues beyond its authority, to ensure the project completes site clearance in November 2025 in accordance with the direction of the Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee.

The Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee also requested the People's Committees of Binh Loi Trung, An Nhon, Binh Thanh and Gia Dinh wards to send leaders to join the Working Group; urgently review and handle problems in compensation, support and resettlement in the area. Heads of units must be responsible for any delays that affect the project's progress.
