The project is invested by the Ho Chi Minh City Urban Infrastructure Construction Investment Project Management Board, with a length of nearly 9 km, passing through An Nhon, Gia Dinh, Binh Thanh and Binh Loi Trung wards (Ho Chi Minh City). Of which, the main route is 6.7 km long, connecting from Nhieu Loc - Thi Nghe canal to Vam Thuat river, with three branches about 2.2 km long.
The project has a total investment of more than 17,000 billion VND, of which nearly 14,000 billion VND is for compensation, support and resettlement of more than 2,200 households and organizations. The main items include dredging, widening the canal, building a drainage system, 6m wide roads on both sides of the river, sidewalks, parks and trees. According to the plan, the project will be completed in 2028.
According to the reporter of Tin Tuc and Dan Toc newspaper, the XL-03 package is currently being constructed with 6 points, including test pile drilling, foundation reinforcement with soil cement piles and pile driving. However, in An Nhon ward, there are still 29/138 cases that have not yet handed over the site, expected to be resolved in September 2025. The land related to Van Lang University has been cleared of obstacles, the investor has approached the site, brought in machinery to clear the ground, and prepared to process the ground.
Meanwhile, the two XL-01 and XL-02 packages, which are expected to start construction at the end of 2025, are still facing major obstacles regarding land acquisition. A total of 2,078 cases of land acquisition in Binh Loi Trung, Gia Dinh and Binh Thanh wards have been reported, but so far only 89 households have handed over the land, although 807 households have been paid.
Regarding procedures, the construction drawings and estimates of the two packages have been approved by the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Construction and the investor. The electronic bidding documents are expected to be issued in September 2025 to select the construction unit.
When completed, the project will contribute to improving the environment, drainage, expanding public spaces and creating a new landscape axis for Ho Chi Minh City.
