On the evening of November 17, in Hanoi , the 2025 National Tuong and Folk Opera Festival opened, gathering professional art units nationwide.
In his opening speech, Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Ta Quang Dong emphasized the special significance of this year's festival, considering it an opportunity to look back on the creative and performing journey of art units, as well as open up new development directions for Tuong and Folk Opera.
“Tuong and folk opera are traditional art forms with unique values of Vietnamese culture, but are facing many difficulties in the face of rapid changes in social life,” the Deputy Minister acknowledged.

Mr. Ta Quang Dong also pointed out the biggest challenges today are the shrinking performance market, scattered audiences, lack of young successors and limited vocational training. Faced with this reality, Deputy Minister Ta Quang Dong said that there needs to be a coordinated effort from management agencies, art units and artists themselves to protect the core values of traditional theater.

According to the Deputy Minister, the Party's important resolutions and conclusions have set out the requirement to link preservation with the promotion of traditional artistic values, innovate policy mechanisms, and create favorable conditions for artists to create. The Deputy Minister emphasized: "Preserving traditional art does not mean keeping the status quo, but needs to be placed in the process of adaptation, development, and dissemination".
This year’s festival is considered an opportunity to evaluate the staging and performance capabilities, the ability to approach contemporary life and the creative innovation efforts of art units. This is also an important basis for management agencies to formulate policies to support traditional theater in the coming time.

Deputy Minister Ta Quang Dong said that the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism will continue to prioritize the development of Tuong and Folk Opera through perfecting financial mechanisms, innovating ordering methods, expanding investment in training young artists and supporting professional training. The Deputy Minister asked art units to boldly innovate, maintain their identity, expand performance spaces and strengthen connections with schools and communities.
The 2025 National Tuong and Folk Drama Festival, with the participation of nearly 1,000 artists and actors from 10 art units nationwide, is a major festival of traditional Vietnamese theatrical arts.
At the festival, 14 plays were elaborately staged, deeply reflecting social life, praising the traditional history, homeland, country and people of Vietnam, honoring moral and humanistic values and aspirations for goodness.
