Ms. Nhi (left cover) advises on credit policies for people to borrow capital.

Hoa Bac residential area - a remote area of the former Phong My commune (now Phong Dien ward) is home to the Kinh community and the Pa Co, Ta Oi, Pa Hy people in the upper reaches of the O Lau river. The lives of the people here are still difficult. More than ten years ago, when she was just over 20 years old, Ms. Phan Thi Phuong Nhi chose Hoa Bac to get married and build a new life. With her agility, resourcefulness, and enthusiasm, she was elected by the people to be a member of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Phong My commune (old); and at the same time took on the role of Head of the Savings and Credit Group.

Ms. Nhi shared: At first, I was hesitant because I was young and had to interact with only adults, including ethnic minorities, so I was quite worried. But thanks to the enthusiastic guidance of the commune officials and the Vietnam Bank for Social Policies (VBSP), I boldly accepted the task.

At first, people here were reluctant to borrow money because they were worried they wouldn't be able to pay it back. Nhi went to each house and explained clearly that this was preferential capital from the State, an opportunity to escape poverty. When they understood correctly, people believed. Since then, Nhi has gradually become a close bridge between the bank and the people, helping them boldly access capital, gradually changing their lives.

Currently, the Savings and Credit Group managed by Ms. Nhi has more than 44 members, with a total outstanding debt of over 2.5 billion VND. For many years, there has been no overdue debt. Every month, Ms. Nhi organizes group meetings, checks the use of capital, collects interest and guides people to save. For Ms. Nhi, being a group leader is not only about managing loans but also about helping people know how to do business, save and calculate how to use capital effectively to develop the family economy . Thanks to her dedication, many households in the group have escaped poverty sustainably and become well-off. Some households, thanks to preferential capital, have invested in economic development models, creating jobs for relatives and neighbors...

Mr. Nguyen Khoa Minh Tri, an officer of the Phong Dien Social Policy Bank Transaction Office, commented: “Ms. Phan Thi Phuong Nhi is a dynamic leader of the Savings and Credit Group, with prestige and a high sense of responsibility. Thanks to Ms. Nhi as a bridge, the implementation of policy credit capital in difficult areas has been more favorable, people have fulfilled their debt repayment obligations, deposited savings and used capital for the right purposes.”

Ms. Nhi also regularly promotes and explains the benefits and obligations of borrowing capital at village meetings and association activities, helping people raise awareness. She said: “Policy loans are like good seeds, but if you want them to sprout, you have to know how to take care of them. If you do it right and work hard, you just need to wait for the day to reap the sweet fruit.”

Mr. Nguyen Dang Thanh, Chairman of the Farmers' Association of Phong Dien Ward affirmed: "Ms. Phan Thi Phuong Nhi is a typical example, both an exemplary Front official and a strong arm of the Social Policy Bank in supporting members to borrow capital effectively."
