According to Dr. Nguyen Trung Nguyen, Director of the Poison Control Center (Bach Mai Hospital), new cigarettes are terribly destructive to smokers' health.
He still remembers the male patient, just over 20 years old, whose health was completely normal before, but when he was hospitalized, his injuries were so severe that he thought he had a stroke.
The patient's brain was extensively necrotic, in some cases up to 1/4 or even 1/3 of the brain volume, with widespread hemorrhage, much more severe than that of an elderly person with a cerebral infarction. Upon admission to the hospital, the patient was given intensive resuscitation: hypothermia, mechanical ventilation, blood filtration...
Or recently, a 17-year-old male patient was hospitalized on October 26 in a state of agitation, convulsions and coma after using an electronic cigarette.

Only 17 years old, but this young man suffers from many diseases of old age, from kidney failure to chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (Photo: Provided by the hospital).
The patient was treated for seizures, intubated, ventilated, and anesthetized.
"In addition, the patient had kidney failure that appeared very early and progressed rapidly, leading to the need for dialysis. This is a kidney failure condition directly caused by the toxic substances in e-cigarettes. The e-cigarette sample provided by the family was tested and found to contain two new generation synthetic drugs, MDMB - 4en PINACA and ADB-4en-PINACA," Dr. Nguyen informed.
Pulmonary function tests showed severe obstructive ventilation disorder. This condition is very similar to chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, often found in patients who have been addicted to cigarettes and tobacco for many years, due to tobacco poisoning, damage, edema, fibrosis and constriction leading to narrowing of the airways.
This condition is the final stage of lung disease caused by tobacco, is very difficult to cure, seriously affects the health of patients and is a burden on the health system.
Through medical history, the patient said that he smoked both e-cigarettes and traditional cigarettes. He shared that he started smoking e-cigarettes at the age of 13, and then smoked cigarettes at the age of 14.
The patient's use of e-cigarettes as a teenager led to cigarette smoking and early onset of COPD in the patient well before he became an adult.
"These cases are the clearest evidence of the devastation caused by this product - turning a young person in their prime, studying and working, into a patient with more severe injuries than an elderly person," Dr. Nguyen emphasized.
Dr. Nguyen warned that electronic cigarettes and heated tobacco products open up a trend of using, abusing and becoming addicted to synthetic chemicals without stopping.
E-cigarettes and heated tobacco products cause comprehensive damage in all aspects to all countries. These are products that need to be quickly eliminated from life.
All types of cigarettes go against and destroy the principles and efforts to fight environmental pollution, keep the air clean, ensure food safety, drug safety, social order and security, and protect the race.
