"We appreciate and support the establishment and operation of the Directorate for Combating Crimes of Trafficking in Persons, Women and Children, under Polri," Antara news agency quoted the Chief of Staff of the Indonesian Ministry of Child Protection and Women's Rights, Ms. Titi Eko Rahayu, as saying.
According to Ms Titi Eko Rahayu, the presence of this new investigation unit is expected to enable police officers to act swiftly in cases of violence involving women and children, while prioritizing the interests of victims.
"We hope that cases of violence against women and children will be dealt with more quickly... officers assigned to handle such cases are those who truly care about the welfare of women and children," she said.
Earlier, Polri Commander-in-Chief Listyo Sigit Prabowo officially appointed Brigadier General Desy Andriani as the head of the agency to combat crimes of trafficking in persons, women and children. Ms. Andriani previously held the position of Head of the Criminal Psychology Department of the Polri Office.
According to Polri Public Relations Officer, Brigadier General Trunoyudo Wisnu Andiko, the establishment of the Directorate and the appointment of a female officer to head the agency reflects the Polri Commander-in-Chief’s commitment to delivering justice to women, children and others in vulnerable groups.
