On the afternoon of June 22, at the press conference to provide information on the occasion of the Action Month for Drug Prevention and Control, Major General Nguyen Van Vien, Director of the Department of Investigation Police on Drug-related Crimes (C04, Ministry of Public Security), informed about the destruction of the case of Tran Hoang Tin and his accomplices illegally buying and selling drugs that occurred in Dong Thap, Ho Chi Minh City and Binh Thuan .
Accordingly, Department C04 coordinated with the Department of Drug and Crime Prevention (Border Guard Command) to establish a joint project with code 568P.
On April 10, at Dong Tang Long Urban Area (Thu Duc City), Nguyen Van Can (born in 1978, residing in Ho Chi Minh City) was caught red-handed for illegally buying and selling drugs in Ho Chi Minh City.

At the same time, at an apartment building in District 7, Ho Chi Minh City, the Task Force caught two subjects in the act of illegally buying and selling drugs, seizing 1.7 kg of synthetic drugs. After that, the Task Force simultaneously deployed working groups in Ho Chi Minh City, Dong Thap, Tien Giang , Can Tho, and Binh Thuan to detain people in emergency cases, search the residences and drug hiding places of 9 subjects; seizing an additional 23 kg of synthetic drugs and 21 heroin cakes.
At the same time, Department C04 sent a working group to Cambodia, coordinating with the country's drug prevention and control forces to arrest 8 subjects, including the mastermind and ringleader. During the search of 8 locations abroad, an additional 11kg of synthetic drugs were seized.
Expanding the investigation, Department C04 issued an emergency detention order and an emergency search warrant for the illegal drug trafficking in Ho Chi Minh City and Binh Thuan against 9 subjects. Evidence seized in the case included about 44kg of various synthetic drugs, 19kg of heroin and many other related assets.
To date, the Ministry of Public Security's Investigation Police Agency has initiated criminal proceedings and prosecuted 12 defendants for illegally buying, selling, and transporting drugs.
According to Major General Nguyen Van Vien, the successful destruction of Project 568P demonstrates the determination to prevent drugs early, from afar, from the starting point, to destroy the entire network, not attack the middle, and capture the masterminds and leaders.

"The units participating in the project demonstrated determination and effective coordination, especially the coordination between the police force and the Border Guard force, between the professional units of the Ministry of Public Security and the local police," said Major General Nguyen Van Vien.
The Director of the Drug Crime Investigation Police Department assessed that Project 568P also demonstrated the cross-border combat capability of the Drug Crime Investigation Police force as well as the effective and in-depth international cooperation in drug prevention and control between the Vietnam Drug Crime Investigation Police and specialized drug prevention and control forces of neighboring countries. The destruction of the project also contributed to reducing the supply of drugs when the mastermind and leader were arrested abroad.
With tireless efforts, in the first 6 months of 2023, the National Drug Crime Investigation Police force coordinated with functional forces to successfully combat and discover more than 13,000 cases, arrest more than 20,000 subjects, seize more than 312 kg of heroin, more than 1.6 tons of drugs, nearly 828,000 synthetic drug pills, 174 kg of marijuana... At the same time, 11,045 cases, 16,117 defendants were prosecuted. Arrested, persuaded to surrender, and eliminated 186 wanted subjects for drugs.
Department C04 alone successfully fought 38 cases, 121 subjects, seized more than 85kg of heroin, more than 310kg and 185 thousand synthetic drug pills... Prosecuted 6 cases, 42 defendants. Department C04 is investigating 11 drug cases, 88 defendants (79 defendants are temporarily detained, 5 defendants are wanted, 4 defendants are banned from leaving their place of residence).
