Speaking at the sharing session, Mr. Phan Anh Son, Chairman of the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organizations, emphasized the special significance of 2025 when Vietnam celebrates many important milestones, and is also the Vietnam - Cuba Friendship Year, commemorating the 65th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

In September 2024, General Secretary and President To Lam paid an official visit to Cuba. Implementing the agreement between the two countries' senior leaders, the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organizations wishes to provide authentic information on the situation in Cuba and the orientation of the country's socio -economic development to the officials working in people's foreign affairs of the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organizations and members of the Vietnam - Cuba Friendship Association, in order to help them have an accurate view and understanding, from which the people's channel will have more programs and activities to promote the special friendship between the two countries.
At the sharing session, Cuban Ambassador to Vietnam Rogelio Polanco Fuentes updated the situation in Cuba, informed about efforts to overcome difficulties, promote economic growth through expanding the private economic sector and attracting investment in areas such as agriculture, energy, biotechnology...
Despite facing many challenges such as embargo, aging population, climate change and limited food and energy supply, Cuba has persisted on its chosen revolutionary path, innovating and promoting domestic production. The Cuban government has also implemented many preferential policies, especially in the field of renewable energy, to attract investment and create favorable conditions for domestic and foreign enterprises.
Regarding the Vietnam-Cuba relationship, Ambassador Rogelio Polanco Fuentes affirmed that this is a special, loyal, pure friendship, rare in international relations. He highly appreciated the close cooperation between the two countries and stated that the potential for cooperation is still very large. In the field of agriculture, the fact that Vietnamese enterprises grow rice in Cuba shows a promising prospect for cooperation. It is expected that by the end of 2025, thousands of hectares of high-yield rice will be harvested, contributing to solving the food security problem in Cuba. In the field of energy, Vietnam is supporting Cuba in developing renewable energy, including the solar energy park project. In terms of biotechnology and medicine, Cuba possesses many advanced technologies, especially vaccines to treat certain types of cancer, and wishes to promote technology transfer cooperation with Vietnam.
Cuba wishes to strengthen the connection between localities of the two countries to promote more substantive cooperation. The Ambassador hopes that the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organizations and the Vietnam-Cuba Friendship Association at the central and local levels will play a bridging role in identifying potential and promoting local-local cooperation.

Concluding the sharing session, Mr. Phan Anh Son said that Vietnam - Cuba cooperation is being implemented in many forms, on many different channels, from high-level to people-to-people diplomacy.
Based on the common perception of the leaders of the two countries, many new cooperation contents have been and are being implemented to celebrate the 65th anniversary of establishing diplomatic relations.
In the context of rapid changes in the world and the region and the new development stage of the two countries, Mr. Phan Anh Son affirmed the importance of the people-to-people cooperation channel. In addition to traditional activities, the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organizations and the Vietnam - Cuba Friendship Association will coordinate with partners to strengthen connections between the young generation and raise awareness of the Vietnam - Cuba friendship.
He also stressed the need to innovate the approach to cooperation, towards a more flexible, practical and effective direction. In the coming time, VUFO will coordinate with the Cuban Embassy in Vietnam to implement more programs connecting businesses and localities of the two countries, creating a foundation for deeper cooperation.
