Carragher predicts Amorim will be sacked

Former Liverpool player Jamie Carragher has expressed doubts about coach Ruben Amorim's ability to stay at Old Trafford in the early stages of the 2025/26 season.

In an article on the Telegraph , Carragher predicted that the Portuguese strategist would have difficulty keeping his seat at Manchester United in the first 20 weeks of the new season, even though the coach once declared that he wanted to stay with the "Red Devils" for 20 years.

Carragher wrote: “Amorim has just made a bold statement that he wants to stay at Manchester United for 20 years. The manager’s first task ahead of the opening game against Arsenal is to ensure he lasts longer than 20 weeks at Old Trafford this season.”

"Amorim needs a strong start to the season. If not, Sir Jim Ratcliffe - co-owner of MU - will not hesitate to act. The possibility of Amorim being fired before 2026 is very high," the former Liverpool player emphasized.

With a spending spree of over £200m, Manchester United are betting big this season. The pressure will be on Amorim, as boss Ratcliffe is not known for being patient with his coaches.

Amorim signed a contract with MU until 2027, but the club's poor performance in the second half of last season caused the Portuguese coach to face a lot of criticism.

MU's Premier League schedule for the 2025/26 season is also quite heavy, when in the first round, they have to face Arsenal - the team that just finished second last season - at Old Trafford. After that, Manchester United will travel to London to visit Fulham, then face Burnley.
