The Ministry of Construction said the final report on the pre-feasibility study of the Can Tho 2 Bridge project has been approved, with a plan for a combined road and railway bridge. The project is expected to start construction in 2027.
According to calculations, the design of Can Tho 2 Bridge with a shared road and railway will save about 6,000 billion VND compared to separating them. It is expected to be basically completed in 2030 with state budget capital. This is a large-scale project with complex technical requirements, implemented for the first time in Vietnam.
The main bridge is designed as a cable-stayed bridge, with a main span of 450m, with 6 expressway lanes on the upper level and 2 railway lanes on the lower level. The total length of the project is more than 17km, including about 12km of approach roads and bridges on the Vinh Long side, more than 1km of the main bridge and 4km of approach bridges and overpasses on the Can Tho City side. The Ministry of Construction emphasized that the implementation process may require research and international cooperation to meet technical requirements.
Can Tho 2 Bridge will be an important route connecting My Thuan-Can Tho-Ca Mau expressway on the Eastern North-South expressway axis.
